What flowers would be good for a bridal bouquet?

What flowers would be good for a bridal bouquet?
I'm having hydrangea, roses and peonies in white and green for my bouquet. And my bridesmaids are carrying the same with more green and adding antique blue hydrangea.
Reply:I couldn't decide for my bouquet, so I let my bridesmaids pick their favorite flower, they carried a bouquet of that flower, and I carried a mixture of all their flowers. It symbolized how a piece of all of them has been an important part of my life that I'll carry with me always! It was beautiful, a mixture of irises, sunflowers, tulips, daisies, roses, and more!
Reply:Pink peonies, Japanese maple, red Dutch roses...
Reply:Mine was a mixture of Lilies, carnations, and roses with greenery and ribbons dangling off the handle. It was really pretty! Especially the Lilies because they smell sooooo good! But ultimately it'll be up to you and what you like! Hope you have a great life w/ your new hubby to be. (if you're the one getting married that is)
Reply:Daisies and roses
Reply:roses, of course
Reply:calla lilies, stephanatos, orchirds, and pink roses
Reply:lillies and roses! Both are beautiful and look great together!
Reply:Tulips
Reply:My favorite is roses... any color you want and just hand tied with some beautiful ribbon. I love that look... plus roses are very sturdy and last a long time! You can also take your bouquet (after the wedding of course) and turn it upside down to dry in a closet... and the will keep beautifully. I still have mine 2 years later. Just my opinion!
Reply:Virtually any flower - if you like it, use it! Pick your color first - do you want all white? do you want to have your colors in too? Answer those questions first, then decide on what you want. Freesia is a great flower for bouquets - it smells nice without being overpowering and it comes in a variety of colors. Roses, orchids and lillies of any variety are always a traditional choice. Sometimes more important than knowing what you want is knowing what you DON'T want. Go to various websites and get ideas for both categories.

Good Luck
Reply:Roses are the most gorgeous especially in white.
Reply:I Love Calla Lillies, Gerber Daisies, Hydrangeas and the good part is they all come in a wonderful array of colors from pastel to vibrant. Google their images.

Best wishes
Reply:Roses

Calla Lilies

Gardenias
Reply:almost any!

Peonies are pretty popular but still different. Lilies and roses are always good. Just stay away from carnations.
Reply:it all depends on the time of the year
Reply:Pick a sturdy flower, not something delicate like orchids that will droop quickly. I am looking at poppies for my boquet with colored boquet jewels.

A good rule of thumb is to look at the stems. The thicker the stem the more hardy the flower and vice versa.
Reply:my aunt had callalillies (im not sure if thats the spelling)

but they looked really pretty
Reply:Pink lilies.
Reply:yes, i agree, tulips, classic and elegant!

What color flowers should I get for my bridal bouquet?

My bridesmaid's dresses are turquoise. I was thinking of getting colorful flowers (reds, blues, purples) for myself and whites and pastels for them to create a contrast. But I'm afraid that if my bouquet is too colorful it will take away too much attention from my beautiful white gown. Anyone have experience with that? Thanks

What color flowers should I get for my bridal bouquet?
I would stick with a little more muted colors for your bouquet because I think you're right about it taking attention away from your gown. Maybe you could have more exotic looking flowers and the bridesmaids could have just plain bouquets. Or you could have a variety of pastel colored flowers and your bridesmaids could have just white bouquets, or white with one other color instead of all the colors. In the end though, it's your wedding, and you should do whatever makes you happiest! People will notice your gown no matter what your bouquet looks like!

Hope that helps!
Reply:I think what you are doing sounds fine. I think the colorful bouquet will draw attention to yourself, and therefore the dress. Plus, people will see the dress afterwards as well. I am doing colorful gerbera daisies and sunflowers.
Reply:for the flowers.. i say go with your favorites..

not just base it on colour..
Reply:No offense, but everyone has seen every version of a white wedding gown and would likely appreciate something unique to enhance it. Just go with whatever you and your fiance likes...yes I said your fiance as its his wedding too.
Reply:I would do their in a color. make theirs smaller and you should have a big white one with pale pinks!
Reply:Have you thought about fans and having flowers arranged near the bottom -- not too many flowers to over power the fan.. but each of you have fans - the bridemades in their respective frock colourings just one carnation and fern.. and you could have a wee bit of gold in yours. Such as white and pick carnations with a gold ribbon just a thought

No they are not old fashioned either... even umbrella's something different
Reply:I had a large, colorful bridal bouquet and it was stunning! If you go that route, your bridesmaid's bouquets should be very monotone (especially if they're wearing turquoise). Style of your bouquet should be complementary to the setting of your wedding and overall tone (formal or casual, etc)
Reply:White and light green.
Reply:i suggest combination of pink, jasmine and rosy colors
Reply:Get peonies, they are only available one month out of the year, so take advantage of it. They are the most beautiful flower to have in a bouquet. Yet very pricey... And yes you are thinking of a way to colorful flower for yourself. Brides should have either white or pink or red. But those flowers don't come in red. Good luck
Reply:having some color in your bouquet can be beautiful and actually add to your dress and help break up all the white if your dress is very wide at the bottom (ball gown shape)

my bouquet had white and yellow star lilies with small white stephonitis flowers to fill it in, which was enough color to make the flowwers pop without overpowwering the dress. two-tone flowers like tulips or dafodils could do the same thing if they had white tips.
Reply:My bridesmaid dresses are pool and my girls are carrying peach gerbera daisies and I am carrying blush Calla lillies, they are an absolutely gorgeous combination.
Reply:I would do all the colors you want just add white flowers in them, you can do the colors in little bits each and it will be very pretty. Do alot of fill flowers in misc colors instead of the large flowers.

What do I need to make my own bridal bouquet?(besides the flowers of my choice)?

I need some easy instructions, please!

What do I need to make my own bridal bouquet?(besides the flowers of my choice)?
Here are some basic instructions, but you may want to make a few practice ones. Do you really want your wedding to be the first bouquet you ever make? I am a professional crafter, and my first one of everything never looks very good.

.
Reply:You can make a beautiful bouquet using your flowers, one easy way is to buy a little accessory which will hold your flowers it is actually a bouquet holder. You may want also to make a smaller throw away one. That way you can keep the bigger one for yourself. You can use it in your home to remind you of your wedding day. I posted a link that might help. Have a wonderful wedding.
Reply:You have the flowers (fresh)of your choice, so you need some quality velvet ribbons, some green leaves.flower tapes , tie wires and maybe a lace

How to?

It depends your bouquet style...if it is hanging or just the casual flower arrangement.Tips :group same flowers to emphasize the beauty of your bouquet.

What kind of flowers for bridal party?

The color I've chosen for the bridesmaids dresses is a seafoam green from Alfred Angelo. What color and kind of flowers should i use for their bouquets? I like pink, so i was thinking some sort of pink flower but i'm open to suggestions.

What kind of flowers for bridal party?
I think pink would be a nice contrast - I saw this bouquet and thought it would be beautiful.

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...
Reply:Pale pink would look nice. So would a pale yellow or pale blue. I had fans instead of the regular bouquets. I used silk flowers. Nowdays you can find any type of flower you want in just about any color. What about using pale pink and yellow or pale yellow and blue.
Reply:Pink is beautiful. I had Lillie's and and roses. It was stunning!
Reply:Pink would be lovely. I also like periwinkle blue and buttercup yellow.
Reply:pink flowers would be lovely...roses would look great

Are hydrangeas delicate flowers to work with for bridal bouquets?

I am wanting to use hydrangeas for my bouquet and the florist told me that they were hard to work with because they are so delicate. Odd since I have seen them all over the bride books recently. Any comments or suggestions?

Are hydrangeas delicate flowers to work with for bridal bouquets?
I know, my grandmothers bouquet from the 30s was a gorgeous mass of hydrangea. Unfortunately, hydrangeas blooms have a tendency to snap off at their base. I head to a local cemetery to cut blooms for decoration, and have to get more than I need just to make up for the ones that will inevitably break in transport (and no worry, cutting blooms at this place is fine with the cemetery owners - the bushes are huge and 100 years old; they don't mind the free pruning).

If the stems were well reinforced with florist tape, it might work.
Reply:You could try using dried hydrangea flowers. They dry beautifully, and can be sprayed to make them more durable. And if you would like to preserve your bouquet as a souvenir of the day--well, using dried ones, it's already preserved!
Reply:yes

How much should I budget to spend on flowers for my bridal boquets and boutineers?

I have 3 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen, as well as my bouquet and my husbands boutineers. and our parents crousages. I am limited on cash for the wedding unfortunatly and I dont have any ide what to expect when I visit the florist next week.

How much should I budget to spend on flowers for my bridal boquets and boutineers?
For the bridal party a general range is:

Bride: $200 - 350

Bridesmaids: $80 - 150 each

Groom and Groomsmen Bouttoniere: $15 - 30 each

Flowergirl: $30 - 50

Parents: $15 - 30 each

However, this does depend on what flowers you use. If they are out of season the price will more likely be at the higher end and maybe over. The same if it is around a holiday such as valentines day.

Check here for the seasons : http://www.elegala.com/flowers-season.ht...
Reply:I am in the DC area, so my prices will probably be a little on the high side (depending on where you are) ... bridal bouquet - $250-$300, bridesmaids - $150 each, groomsmen/fathers - $12 each, husband - $15, mothers/grandmothers - $45 each ...

This is definitely going to depend on your location and what flowers you choose. Hydrangea are VERY expensive while roses are very affordable.
Reply:Oh my gosh, prices for flowers are literally all over the board. You can do this very cheaply, or you can go extremely expensive.

Here's an article from Martha Stewart that kind of breaks down your budget by percentages. So if you know the total amount you have to spend, this can give you a basic idea of how much to spend on each component.

http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site...
Reply:You can ask your florist what flowers will be in season at the time of your wedding. Most often when they are in season they cost less because there are more available. I would probably budget atleast a couple hundred. If you are really trying to save money. Consider silk arrangements that you can do yourself or your bridesmaids can assemble for you. You can purchase silk flowers fairly inexpensive at places like Walmart, Michael's, Joann's and basically any other arts and craft store. These should not run you more than $50 or $60. Good luck and congrats.
Reply:It depends on the total budget of the wedding, the size of the wedding and I would suggest you get a book NOW from somewhere. May * suggest a book. No offense intended on the name of the book.
Reply:We went to a local craft store and the lady that owns it makes wedding bouquets. She did the bridal bouquet, maid of honor bouquet, 2 mother coursages, boutineers for the groom, father of bride, ring bearer and the pastor, and 2 basket arrangements for the church for $240.00. She only uses quality silk flowers and my daughter received so many compliments on the flowers. They were gorgeous. Her bouquet was huge!! It had hydrangeas, multi-colored roses, lots of greenery, baby's breath (with irredescent glitter) and long stems instead of a handle for carrying. She also put a beautiful wide lace ribbon around the top of the stems. If you are considering silks, try a local craft store to see who makes wedding arrangements.
Reply:It has much to do with the type of flowers you would like, not just how many you are buying for......... what type of flowers are you thinking of getting, that is what will really dictate the price.
Reply:Overall you should expect your flower budget to be about 15% of your overall budget. If your wedding budget is $10,000 then your flower budget should be about $1500. If your budget is $5000, then about $750.

Let the florist know what your expected budget is and what designs you like. The smaller your budget the less costly your flowers should be. So, don't expect everything roses for a really small amount of money.

Has anyone ordered bridal flowers from Costco?

They have complete sets for the entire wedding party for less than $500.00 delivered to your home. I called them, their rep said it looks just the the photos online. If you've ordered flowers from them or Sams club was it worth it? Did you save $money? Thank you

Has anyone ordered bridal flowers from Costco?
My neighbor's daughter had her flowers from Sam's Club and they looked amazing! She used white roses and blue hydrangea's. She saved a ton of money and they really did look amazing.

The only thing was they were not premade arrangements she and her mother had to make them.
Reply:My sister did she said they were such a good deal compared to the local florist and they looked amazing at the wedding...

and they good quality too

i think they had some artifical ones too but im not sure
Reply:We are getting ours from Costco, my fiance works there and we have guaranteed that they look perfect! There flowers are great quality, go for it!!
Reply:ooh i did!!! my sister bought my wedding flowers from costco and then made my bouquets for me! so it cost me around $300 for the flowers...and everyone said how HUGE my boquet was...my bridesmaid boquets were bigger then most normal brides are!!

you can order the flowers you want ahead of time and then they arrive fresh for you..

*my sister used to be a flowrist so she figured out the cost of what it would have been if i bought the flowers from a florist and it would have been over $2000 in flowers!! so ya go with costco- i honestly recomment it!!!

How many flowers in a bridal bouquet?

I am interested in making my own bouquets for my wedding. I am using roses and calla lillies. How many stems makes a good size bridal bouquet? How many for a bridesmaid? Thanks in advance!

How many flowers in a bridal bouquet?
Find a nice picture and eyeball it. Make sure it's bigger than the bridesmaids.
Reply:I think it's going to depend on your taste. I plan to do my own too. I love the breezy, hand-tied look, and I can save a lot of money going it on my own. I am using Gerbera daisies for my bridesmaids, and for those I plan to leave the stems lovely and long, so I would imagine 7-8 daisies per bouquet will work out fine, tied in ribbon and secured with a brooch. For my maid of honor I am going with pink gerberas and pink roses, so hers will be a little fuller, again tied with ribbon and a brooch. Mine will be all pink roses, so I figure about a dozen for mine, with greenery and ribbons.

I hope that helps!!
Reply:i've heard of 9 in the bridesmaid bouquet and about 15 in the brides bouquet. Try www.proflowers.com
Reply:The number of stems depends on the type of bouquet you will be making. I've been to wedding where the bride and the bridesmaids carried just one stem. And there are some cascading bouquets that have a large number of stems. There are so many books about making bouquets; they will tell you how many you need and how to make them. Keep in mind that the type of bouquets you want to make consider the type and style of your wedding, how elaborate the dresses are, your body size, and your budget.
Reply:As many as you and your bridesmaids can comfortably hold
Reply:It's the width- mine is 15" rose round... about 4 dozen.
Reply:The best way to judge is to start holding them together. I would suggest going to a florist and asking how many are in a normal bouquet. If you are using silk, then get some and make one and see. Always over order a few, just in case.
Reply:A typical bridal bouquet contains 25 stems of flowers. The size of the actual bouquet will depend on how large the roses and calla lillies you are using. I personally would recommend mini-callas - they come in a variety of colors and are absolutely stunning.

I carried a bouquet of calla and roses down the isle (25 stems total) and it was a good sized bouquet. For the bridesmaids, the florist used slightly smaller flowers to create smaller bouquets. You can always use less flowers (go with 15 stems) if you want a much smaller bouquet. If you send me your email, I can send you a picture of my bouquet.

Just a hint - always use odd numbers in your bouquets so you don't need to worry about symmetry.

Congrats!
Reply:go for 8 to 12 stems in the bridemaids bouquets.

go for 14 to 18 in the bride bouquet.
Reply:Normally the bridal bouquet is slightly larger and more dramatic than the bridesmaids'. If your dress is simple, be more elaborate with your flowers, but if your dress is fancy don't distract from it with too many flowers.
Reply:for a full bouquet of callas and roses about 10-12 inches in diameter you would probably need around 3 dozen roses and 2 dozen callas. Sounds like a lot but if you want it to look full, round and lush it takes a lot of densly packed flowers.
Reply:I've actually sat down and figured out how many I want for my bouquets as well and I am using White roses and Blue Dendrobium orchids. Now, calla lillies are a little larger in size so you may want to adjust this down if it looks to be too much, but I had decided on 6 roses and 3 stems of orchids for bridesmaids, 8 roses and 4 stems of orchids for my MOH and my throw away bouquet and then 10 roses and 5 stems of orchids for my bouquet.

As I said, calla lillies are much larger in size than Dendrobium orchids so you may want to adjust that slightly but there's a good place to start. Best of luck
Reply:Just look at pictures of bouquets. That's what I did for my wedding. I went to www.theknot.com for alot of info, including pictures of bouquets. You can really do whatever you want. Just make sure your bouquet is the biggest and baddest in comparison to the bridesmaids. Maybe just have them carry 3-4 calla lillies tied together.
Reply:i used the same for my bouquet i had about 15 roses and abour 25 lillies the more the better for the bride!
Reply:there is about 6 in a bouquet

Bridal flowers? cost, color?

I am getting married in March 08. We have everything done apart from the flowers. Our whole wedding has stayed within our budget and i don't want to blow it on the flowers. What can i expect to pay low end to high end for a bridal bouquet, Attendants bouquets and groomsmen boutennieres? (spelling? ) Also, my dress is Ivory and my girls are wearing Black with a Champagne sash... so what color flowers other than white do you think will go nicely. Thanks for your help.

Bridal flowers? cost, color?
The prices will vary according to what flowers you choose and what size bouquets you want. For you and for your girls I recommend pink roses. The bouquets should be a little on the small side. The bouquets for the girls should be slightly different from yours. For the men, matching pink rose boutonnieres would work very nicely. To keep the price within your budget go for the simpler options. Sometimes less can look like more.
Reply:Hi and congratulations!

Go to a florist and speak with them. Tell them your budget....how many bouquets you need, etc. and what kinds of flowers you like and get an estimate (quote). That is the only way you will know. They can give you better suggestions of flowers than any of us. That is their business! They are more than willing to help you.

Also try a florist in a grocery store. I know it sounds strange, but they are trained floral designers! Get a quote from a couple of different places.

Everything, of course, depends not only on what flowers you want, but where you live. I live in a rural area so the prices here may not be what they are where you live.

Usually the brides bouquet (in my experience) is about $100 (and up), depending on flowers chosen. Bridesmaid's bouquets can be anywhere from $30-$75?

Boutonnieres usually run about $10-$20.

Again, go to a florist SOON and get a quote.

PS-- I like yellow or pink against a black dress....it looks really nice in the pictures.
Reply:buy fake flowers and watch martha stewart on demand or get a book the are really easy to make yourself try this website

www.marthastewart.com *go to weddings *and then go to Bouquets %26amp; Flowers it's not alot of money done the way you want it easy and fun enjoy and good luck. I am making mine too!
Reply:Im getting married in May and Im making my bridesmaid bouquets. We are buying fake flowers and putting them together ourselves. I talked to a florist and she gave me some pointers on how to arrange them, and they look WONDERFUL! I honestly didnt think it could be so easy and fun. And our groomsmen arent going to be having boutineers (sp?). I think its one of those things that guys dont really care about, so why spend the money? The only real flowers will be my bouquet and the flowers for the parents.

in regards to the colors, its kinda tricky. The colors of your wedding are BEAUTIFUL, but the only way to incorporate any kind of color into the bridal party and yourself is through flowers-bc of the black dresses. I think ivory roses tipped with light pink and a pale pink ribbon would be pretty. It would add some color but not too much that could be distracting. Or small red bouquets would really add dramatic and elegant color to it. Either end of the spectrum would be gorgoeous! Congrats and have fun!!
Reply:http://www.fiftyflowers.com/ Even if you aren't doing the flowers yourself, this site could give you an idea of the relative costs of various flowers.
Reply:I would say a champagne color would be nice, call around for prices and try to bargain letting the other florists know the prices of the other ones if you think they are to high maybe you can get a bargain and still stay with in budget.
Reply:Roses are the most inexpensive flower to use (unless it's Feb, but it's not!). Carnations are cheaper, but I wouldn't use just them- you could mix them in with the big arrangements. Bring colors into florist, you'll be surprised what they suggest to match! Anything would match those colors. I would suggest peach roses mixed with ivory.
Reply:Flowers can be the most flexible item in your wedding...also the most expensive if you are not careful.

Bridal bouquets basic flowers can easily run $300 plus, $75-$100 each bridesmaid, work with your florist he may be willing to include the groomsmen for $5 each from the cuttings of the other flowers. Simple tied fresh spring flowers Iris, Gerber daisies, would be a good start. Lots of colors in this variety of flower. Also check into local discount dept. stores or supermarkets. If they have a floral department, ask to see some samples of their work. I once found a person who worked at the flower dept. willing to free lance and give me a break in the flowers for a wedding I help organize.

Who ever you choose for flowers, be sure to ask them for a box or petals and greenery to add to your decorations. I like to keep bouquets simple and elegant not to overshadow the dresses and over all look. Try to keep the choice of flowers to what is in season. Be careful, some greenery costs as much as some flowers.

Good luck.
Reply:I would do a basic pale pink rose... if the guys arent into pink, maybe a offwhite/ivory color. Honestly, people won't rem the colors of the flowers as much as they will the gorgeous couple! It will be a beautiful day regardless of the minor details- congrats:)

Can I use real hibiscus flowers in my bridal bouquet?

I'm not sure if they'll last at all. Do I have to use silk if I want those flowers?

Can I use real hibiscus flowers in my bridal bouquet?
well, my only experience with hibiscus is from the bush I had in my yard. They are absolutely beautiful, but the blooms dont last long. It would bloom in the morning, and the bloom would shrivel up and fall off by evening time. Not sure how they would last in a boquet. You would probably have to put them together the morning of the wedding. you could practice. Get some hibiscus, put them in a small bouqet early in the morning, carry them around for awhile, leave them sitting indoors for awhile, see how well it holds up. Good luck with them, they are sooo beautiful and it would be great if it works for you!
Reply:the hibiscus plant i have its flowers usually only last a few days. i don't see why u can't have them in your bridal bouquet. just don't count on the hibiscus flowers to last as long as the rest. if u are having multiple flowers and congrats!

I am looking for a creative idea in storing my dried bridal flowers. They are air dried.?

Put them in a small short vase to hold them steady then place a large round clear bowl around them. Place it as a centerpiece on a table in your home. You could even etch the wedding date with a etching kit for glass.

Another idea Craft stores carry large glass vases. Find one to fit your flowers from top to bottom. Fill the bottom with glass beads glass rocks or rice place flowers inside the vase. You could even make a lamp. Maybe even a picture frame like a shadow box type that will preserve them not sure what size your flowers are, but that's another idea.

Or better yet. Any craft store will have tons of ideas for your flowers.Just ask a clerk in the floral department. Good Luck

I am looking for a creative idea in storing my dried bridal flowers. They are air dried.?
Not sure.

But when my kids give me flowers - I keep them by drying them out and just keeping them in a vase.

I've had them for years, but don't know how much longer they'll last and be safe.
Reply:Purchase a glass domed display at a craft store, such as Michael's. Place the flowers in a holder of your choice, attached to the bottom of the display. Hide one silica gel packet in with the flowers, to reduce the interior humidity. Place the dome on top.

I did this for a bride in 1991 and the flowers still looked good when I visited last summer.
Reply:hang it upside down on the wall. preferable a room where there is not alot of traffic. let it have time and it will dry beautifully., then you can hang about a door or whereevr once it has dried
Reply:When I dry flowers to save, I usually put them into a vase and display them on a shelf.
Reply:you can press them and then put them in a picture frame, or you can make hang them upside down and make some sort of collage of wedding pics around it and put it in a shadow box?
Reply:A creative way in storing them is to freeze them until u find out what to do with them so they can stay in the condition that they are already in.
Reply:I put mine in a display box (you can get them at a craft store) with a picture of my husband and i on our wedding day.

Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping water in fresh cut flowers for a bridal bouquet?

I am helping my sister with her bridal bouquet...she is planning on carrying a bouquet of cut flowers. Does anyone know a way of keeping water in the stem so the flowers do not dry out at wilt? I have heard of gluing the cut ends of the stems, but I don't know what type of glue to use....any tips??

Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping water in fresh cut flowers for a bridal bouquet?
Store them in water in the fridge until RIGHT before the ceremony (and put them back in water between pictures and ceremony as well as have a vase for them to sit in during the reception prior to the toss). Have a nice thirsty towel handy to drip them onto prior to use.

Just an FYI, cut flowers will usually stand going without water for an hour or two without problems...depends upon how delicate the flowers are though (roses last better than peonies for example).
Reply:The only thing I have ever heard is to not cut them with scissors because that seals the stems, if you want them to drink lots of water cut them with a sharp knife on an angle.

Honestly, florists are usually so nice, I would go into your local florist and ask them for tips and advice, best to get the answer straight from the horses mouth.

Good luck!
Reply:My mom was a florist for many years and i've never heard of glueing the stems. My suggestion is just to keep it in water and acool place as long as possible. The florist making it will stick in a bucket of water and put it in the cooler overnight until you pick it up. AS soon as you get to the reception site make sure you have some sort of container to use as a vase. Something you can put water in and put the boquet in it. Other than that there are no tricks that I know of.
