Miniature plant party favors? HELP!?

I'm hosting a bridal shower in August. I wanted to give the guests miniature plants as favors, but I'm not quite sure where to start. I wanted something that preferably does not flower, so that I don't have to worry about it not being in bloom for the shower. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good miniature plant, where to buy seeds, little pots for growing and about how long before the shower to plant these, so that we have a nice plant to give away?

Miniature plant party favors? HELP!?
An English ivy is a lovely green plant, non-flowering, and can be easily made from a single bought plant.

Get a good healthy specimen at a garden center or grocery store. Prepare a potting flat (the kind you get bedding plants in the spring) with a potting soil+ perlite mix, moisten the soil and put it in a sunny place.

Clip 2-4" sections of the ivy and bury the stem part in the soil, a new plant every few inches. Water the new plants when the soil's almost dry. In a few weeks, the ivy sections will have put down new roots. Then you can carefully dig them out and repot them into little clay pots from Walmart, a garden center, or a home repair place like Home Depot that has a garden center. Use the potting soil+ perlite mix. Add a little MiracleGro when you water to help the little ivy plants grow full and green. Lots of sunshine if you're growing them indoors by this time. Partial shade if the plants are outside by June.

Since the shower's in August, you have plenty of time. In fact, they may be rather large by August, as English Ivy is a fast grower and very hardy.
Reply:This may seem like a goofy suggestion but why not try basil. It germinates fast and has beautiful leaves. The basil will give back what yu pay in useable culinary leaves. People can keep the plant indoors or can plant outside when the weather is right. There are seeds for bush basil, ornamental basil, purple basil etc.

But just another little suggestion...right now grocery stores are unloading all their miniature roses. You can get them for about $4 right now whereas they will go to 15 or 20 when the season hits. The plant itself is quite pretty even without blooms, however most will have buds or blooms when you buy them. As long as you pinch of the dead blooms, more will come. They are so pretty. Every year,at this time, I go out and buy more and then transplant into my garden in June.
Reply:Go look at some greenhouses/nurseries in your area. Often they will have a selection of very small pots of "starter" plants. See what they have, you can see what you like, and then it will be no problem having them order enough for your purposes, for the date you need them.
Reply:Give your guests miniature pots of clover or good luck plants like Lucky bamboo with a note attached that says “Thank you for being here to wish us luck on our big day”

Lucky Bamboo can even be formed to make a heart shape in a centerpiece.
