More Help with Planning Friends Wedding?

Im planning a wedding for a friend and I need suggestions for inexpensive decorations. She wants to keep them to a minimum because the bulk of her budget is going to the reception where she is having an open bar. I've included links to her dress, bridesmaid dresses, and flowers [orange tiger lillies] (just to give you a hint at the "theme" and the wedding is next October) What I really need help with is table centerpieces and ceremony decorations. I like the idea of having pompador balls on the isles but not sure what flower to make them out of. Also, any ideas for favors would be appriciated too.

I used a pomander ball for my junior bridesmaid to carry and made it myself. I found the perfect flowers and used a styrofoam ball. It turned out great, but would have cost less and looked just as nice to purchase a cheap ball online, and added a few flowers to spice it up. Look at www.orientaltrading.com or www.abcdistributing.com for this ball. As for the centerpieces, I used a glass curricane with clear marbles (you could mix in a few orange) and a floating candle with a ribbon tied around the hurricane. It's very inexpensive to make. The huricanes are about 2 for $1 at walmart. I made cheap favors because I figured no one would keep them anyway, and I'm sure she will not want to use my hersey kisses wrapped in tulle and tied with a ribbon idea. However for my bead table, everyone received a personalized champagne glass ("mother of the bride" "bridesmaid", etc) but she may be able to have some made for about the same price as any other favor with the date and the couple's names. Or she could purchase $.49 glasses and use clear printed lables.
Reply:Get some table cloths that match the colors of the wedding. Get some small vases and place similiar colored rocks in them halfway, put water in the other half of the way and put floating tealights in them.

If the colors are orange/gold, maybe you can get some orange lights (like christmas lights, but orange) and put some sheer cover over those and hang them around. I am sure right now since it is right after halloween it wont be too hard to find those lights for very cheap!
Reply:If the ceremony is going to be in a church, forego the pompador balls...let the church's beauty do everything. The flowers are gorgeous though...for the centerpieces, a tall vase is great. Line it with large green leaves (for the LIFE of me I can't remember what they are called) and fill it with water...that way you won't need as many flowers to make the vase look full, yet it will still look classy.
Reply:what about small pumpkins with the top cut out just enough to fit a tea light candle in it. Thos would match with the flowers beautifully. And instead of the flower girl tossing out flowers what about having her toss leaves. You know the artifical kind you can pick up in craft stores real cheap in january, they come in all kinds of fall colors. you could take the pumpkins and line them up the aisle, lite with the candles or with some kind of small light would give the bride a lighted path, then you can take them to the reception to use a centerpeices (if the couple is going to have pictures taken or if there is a time lapse between the wedding and reception you should have time. You can usually pick up small pumpkins for a buck or 2 at any pumpkin patch. I hope that helps you out. I noticed the month of the wedding was in October, and pumpkins were the first thing to pop into my head. Good Luck.
Reply:Go with something you guys can make like candles on small mirrors or a glass bowl with flower petals or small floating candles inside they can be very cute and most of these things you can get a a dollar store good luck and God bless
Reply:I had my wedding October 2005 and we used autumn tones etc in the decor too. It turns out lovely.


Lots of candles for a warm glow. We had small candle lanterns as centerpieces (we rented them from the florist) surrounded by fall toned florals. Chocolate brown linens are great for the tables. It gives it a really rich look for not that much money. For the ceremony we had our florist make an arch out of willow branches and there were fall toned flowers tucked right in. Then down the aisle, we had more candle lanterns (the taller version on stands) every other row decorated w/ fall toned fabric (chocolate brown and champagne) as adornment. It was very pretty.

Reply:I am not sure if this will help, but if you nees any votive holders, square mirrors, etc. try to hit as many garage sales and resale stores as you can! I got all of my champagne glasses, votive holders and centerpiece items from different sales. Good Luck
Reply:i just got married five weeks ago and had a very autumn theme - berries and brambles are great. My table centres were on cork and there was an autumn theme going on - if you email me i can send u the pics for ideas
Reply:Buy the autumnal Hershey kisses and wrap them in tulle circles tied with a ribbon for favors. I'd say anywhere from 3 to 5 kisses per bag is a good qty.





One of the least expensive centerpieces you could do is, wrap a few empty boxes in wedding paper and autumn paper and place in a grouping on the table. Sprinkle confetti on the table and use a couple of votive (no scent-it interferres with stomaches over dinner) candles on the table.
